Packing Services and Tips

The way you prepare your belongings for moving will make a difference in the speed of your move and the condition in which they arrive. General rules for packaging is mostly common sense.

The following suggestions for packing are general guidelines. Use your own discretion when packing your belongings.

• Pack heavy items in small boxes. Records, books, canned foods, etc.
• Pack light items in large or extra large boxes. Linens, comforters, sheets etc.
• Wrap china and all fragile objects in paper individually. Large plates and heavy pieces should be placed on their edge and on the bottom of the box. Wad up some packing paper and put on bottom of box for cushioning. Cups and saucers should be placed towards the top of the box. Plates and dishes should be placed in a vertical position with pads of paper in between.
• Mirrors, glass tops to furniture and large pictures should be covered in bubblewrap or paper pads and placed in picture/mirror cartons.
• Valuables such as jewelry, legal documents, and currency should be moved by yourself. Keep these items in your possession throughout the move.
• MAKE SURE ALL BOXES ARE SEALED ON TOP AND BOTTOM OF BOX. LABEL BOXES ON TOP AND SIDE OF BOX ACCORDING TO ROOM LOCATION.

Make sure to put heavier items in smaller boxes and light bulky items in larger boxes. Do not over or under pack boxes. If you over pack a box it is likely to split open. Under packing a box will likely cause the box to crush or dent. Make sure you pack all boxes completely to the top. Avoid putting delicate breakable items on the very top.

Use sturdy boxes. Boxes that have seen many moves may not keep your belongings as safe as a newer box. Used grocery boxes will work fine for sturdy items, but pack breakables in something more suitable.

Use plenty of packing materials, packing paper, styrofoam peanuts, bubblewrap. It is very important to put a good layer of materials at the bottom of boxes containing fragile items.
